Artichokes with Dijon Dill Dip

Jules, our former housemate, brought this recipe with her from California along with her taste in music and her unrusted '87 Honda.
Whole fresh artichokes
1 lemon

dijon dill dip:
1/4 c mayonnaise
1/8 c dijon mustard
1t fresh or dry dill
1 t lemon juice
Cut the pointy end and most of the stem end off the artichokes with a knife and cut all the points off the leaves with scissors. Squeeze juice from the lemon on the cut artichokes. Place the artichokes upright in a pot and put an inch of water in the bottom. Cover the pot, and let the artichokes steam over medium heat for an hour or until a leaf easily pulls off.

To make dill dip, combine the mayonnaise, mustard, dill and lemon juice. Serve warm artichokes with dip as an appetizer.
