The last time the three of us went to Prague, we had half a day stopover in Paris on the way back. Our plan: to get French toast from the source. We took the bus to Opera, the Metro to Montparnasse, then hit the street at 10:00 amÑyou would have thought the perfect time to order French toast. We scoured the streets for over two hours; we found crepes, and many, many, many ham-and-cheese baguettes, but no French toast. By 12:30 it was time to rush back to the airport. We grabbed the only toast in sight: croque monsieur, a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, but at least it was on soft white bread. Moral: If you have a French toast craving, don't go to Prague. |

| 1-2 eggs 1 c milk or buttermilk 1/2 t vanilla 1 t sugar 8 thick slices of bread oil cinnamon |
Egg bread or homemade bread is great for making French toast. In a bowl, beat eggs with a fork. Mix in milk, vanilla, and sugar. Soak both sides of each slice of bread in egg mixture and place on plate. Heat up a frying pan over medium heat(preferably nonstick), put in a small amount of oil and place battered bread in the pan. Sprinkle cinnamon on each slice of bread while it is cooking. When one side of the bread is golden brown, flip it over and sprinkle cinnamon on the other side. Cook until second side is golden brown. Keep slices warm in the oven while cooking the rest of the toast. |
